from Burnley to Bakhmut

From Burnley to Bakhmut is a short film following a convoy from charity Ukraine CARES as they deliver two armoured ambulances from Lancashire to the Ukrainian frontline. The team come face-to-face with some of the stark realities faced by Ukrainian people in the midst of war and highlights their desperate need for continued assistance and support. The film lets the war-torn region speak for itself and features touching moments including delivering gifts from Burnley FC to children in a school for the visually impaired.

CARES DIRECTOR John Banaszkiewicz with the children in Ukraine

OUR MISSION

Ukraine CARES was born out of the humanitarian crisis following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Shortly after the onset of the war one of our founding members visited Ukraine and was moved by both the bravery of the people and by the urgent need to assist a healthcare system on its knees.

Following discussions with frontline health workers we were shocked to learn that they were suffering casualties whilst attending to the needs of soldiers on the front line. These healthcare workers were left exposed in a warzone by their reliance on civilian vehicles, which, tragically, were being targeted.

24th FEBRUARY 2022

On 24 February 2022, Russia launched a military invasion of Ukraine. Over 350,000 people have been killed or wounded . . . No end is in sight!

At Ukraine CARES we want to raise a million pounds to buy 20 armoured ambulances, as well as more trauma kits, tactical equipment and essential humanitarian aid. We’ll show you exactly where your money is going and deliver it ourselves. No middlemen here.

To the many heroes, to those we met on this journey, to their fight for freedom  … Please give generously.
